Brain dump add-on
Let the house do it
Your home marking the parts of the day you keep missing, so you are not the only thing keeping track
- For
- Anyone who looks up and finds it is somehow nine at night, and who has either never set a smart home up or set one up that everybody now resents
- You get
- A list of what you already own, one or two automations that mark the moments you actually miss, a plain English record of what the house does and how to stop each one, and a way to add more without the place turning against you
- Takes
- About 45 minutes, then a week of living with the first one before you build another
- Needs first
- The free setup done, and one smart plug or bulb. The parts that run on a schedule need a paid Claude plan, everything else works on the free one.
The reason the day gets away from you usually is not that the room is too dim. It is that nothing in the room changes, so there is no signal that one part of the day has ended and another has started. A clock does not fix that, because reading a clock means remembering to look at one, which is the exact thing that is not happening.
So an automation here is a signal, not a treatment. The lamp going warm and dim at half past eight is not doing something to your brain. It is saying the evening has started, in a way that is much harder to miss than a number on a screen.
It starts with what you already own and never suggests you buy anything. One smart plug is a complete starting kit. You build one automation, live with it for a week, and then keep it, change it or take it out. Taking it out is a real answer.
There is a list of things it will not automate, agreed before anything is built: nothing that locks a door, nothing with a heating element, no smoke alarms, no medical equipment, and nothing that is the only thing keeping somebody safe.
It will never tell you what a colour does to you. What lighting can and cannot do is said honestly, and then you find out for yourself over the week.
